Cremation

Dering-Henson Funeral Home provides families who decide on cremation as an alternative to earth burial many options from which to choose. Many of the same decisions and information that is used in making traditional funeral arrangements are also used in planning a cremation and memorial service.

Items to consider when planning a cremation include:

• A cremation container or combustible casket for the body.

• An urn

• Time and Place for a Memorial Service

• Whether there is to be a Public or Private Viewing/Visitation

Video Tributes

A video tribute of your loved ones life and special memories can be a great reminder of how special the person was to you. We would be glad to produce a meaningful video tribute to play during a gathering of friends and family at our establishment or venue of your choice.

To help with other concerns, Dering-Henson Funeral Home is providing the following information:

Social Security: Dering-Henson Funeral Home will notify the Social Security Administration (SSA) of a death by mail. To determine benefits, please contact the SSA at (304) 291-4367 or by mail at the Mountaineer Mall, 5000 Greenbag Road, Morgantown, WV 26505

Veteran's Benefits: We will handle all the paperwork necessary to determine eligibility for Veteran's benefits. To do so, a copy of the military discharge will be needed.

Insurance Benefits: Our directors are familiar with the claims process the insurance companies require. Usually, a claim form and death certificate and the appropriate signatures is all that is needed. We will be happy to assist in any way we can.

Wills and Probate: To probate a will, please contact the Monongalia County Clerks Office, located on High St., in the Monongalia County Court House. If there was no will, the next of kin will need to go to this office to qualify to settle the estate.

Monuments and Markers: A monument or marker is an everlasting memorial, symbolizing the life of a loved one. We will be happy to assist in whatever way needed.
